Who organized?
Bill Owen

WWII "Battle of the Bulge" with Command Decision / Test of Battle rule set using the Holtz memorial collection of giant 1:76 scale troops on big 5'x9' table!

We will meet at Bill's house (see address above) by 9:00AM. We will then go to Springfield for a full day of mini gaming goodness. We should be done by 5:00PM, back to Decatur by 6:00PM. If anyone needs a brush up on how the game works we can provide that en route. If someone wants to drive over to Springfield separately, call Bill for directions to Scott's house (see phone number above).

Meet some great guys from Springfield and around. Plus just seeing Scott's basement (which has at least 3 miniature tables) and numerous collections of various periods is worth it... and he's a very welcoming guy.

You're right, we were not effective in our attack and the Americans did not launch a strong counterattack in time. I think given enough time, it would have more likely to have succeeded. So if you don't like "draws", the Americans should have one on "points".

Technically it was a draw. We Americans failed to take one of the German occupied villages. And I am very jealous of Scott's "Man Cave." I wish I had that kind of space!

Thanks to Chris & Ed for going over with me to Springfield. There were 4 guys from Springfield, 3 from Peoria/Chicago area including one guy's daughter who was a great die-roller! Good game... unfortunately Ed & I were on the losing side (Germans) so Bastogne remained secure thanks to Chris and the rest of the American side.

Our host, Scott Wilhelm, suggests that each of us brings a bag of chips or something edible, Chili whatever. The pot luck arrangement is for ?grazing? throughout the game so we don?t have to take a formal lunch break. More time for fighting! Speaking of chili, that reminds me, the basement war room is a little on the cool side?you may want to bring a sweatshirt or sweater.

Just 2 weeks away from this excellent annual event. If Ed changes from 'Maybe' to 'Yes' then the mobile device will be full! Overflow vehicle drivers should call or email me to find out directions.

With 3 going over to Springfield (so far), we have an excellent turn out from Decatur! Any more?

In addition to Scott Wilhelm, world's friendliest game host, you will get to meet Steve Alvin, designer of the scenario, and Kevin Brown, who is the most abject scout car commander! Others likely to attend: Michael Murphy who is a "Major" in the corps of Engineers and father of triplets. The event is our annual John Holtz Bulge Memorial Game in honor of John who died 4 years ago. He was a great miniatures game host and missed big time.

Who attended?

  • 4 attendees
    •  The count of 3 is of Decatur Gamers, actually 6 others (non-members) also attended. I already posted a quick word on the game.
    •  Great group of folks! They made me feel comfortable, and were patient when teaching me the rules. I felt part of the group.
