2 for 1 game day with Decatur Gamers!
Come join us at the Richland Community College Cafe for a great afternoon of gaming at it's finest! We will be enjoying TWO games on Sunday - Descent: Journeys in the Dark and Red Dragon Inn.
Descent will be our "primary" game, but it is limited to 5 players, so we'll have Red Dragon Inn available for overflow.
About Descent
Descent: Journeys in the Dark is a semi-cooperative game in which two to five players will take on the antagonistic roles of heroes and Overlord. Up to four players will choose characters with a wide assortment of skills and innate abilities to be the heroes who will explore dungeons in search of treasure and adventure. One player will take on the role of the Overlord and will control the dungeon's many traps, puzzles, and monsters. The heroes' goal will be to cooperatively conquer the dungeon, seize its many treasures, and achieve other objectives as set by the scenario. If the heroes cooperate and achieve their goals, they will all win. The Overlord's objective is simply to use all the means at his or her disposal - from deadly traps and ferocious monsters - to kill the heroes. Each hero has a certain Conquest Point value to the party and if too many Conquest Points are lost through hero death, the party loses and the Overlord wins.
If you're a fan of board games or a fan of Role Playing Games (OR BOTH!), then you'll enjoy Descent!
As stated, we will be in the RCC Cafe. Park in Parking Lot B, and come in the main entrance (by the silver sculpture) (MAP HERE). The Cafe will be immediately to your left. The Cafe is closed on Sunday, but they have open seating, and vending machines available.
Descent is a rather long game (4 hours?), so be prepared. If you'd rather play Red Dragon Inn, it goes much quicker.
RSVP and mark your calendars today!
I'm getting questions about what games will be played this Sunday. The short answer is: whatever you want! If you haven't been to one of our meetups before, it basically works where people bring some of their games and we break off into groups and play. You can always announce ahead of time you would like to run a certain game and try to get players. For instance, I'll be running Descent and already have several players, but there will be others who haven't commited to any particular game.
@Heather - we can do something more mainstream if you like. Do you have something in mind, or something that you can bring? I think I have a Sorry game. I also have traditional "style" games, but they're obscure enough that you probably haven't heard of them. I'll bring those. Still, you'll like RDI, I promise. ;)
@Chris & Everyone Else - That's correct, we'll have games available or you can bring something and we'll do what we can. This Sunday is going to be a little weird because of the date (5th of July). To be honest, we didn't expect as many people to RSVP Yes as they did! It'll be fine.
Definitely enjoyed Descent. It brought back old memories of Heroquest games. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try Red Dragon Inn at the next meet up.
A quick word about Red Dragon Inn:
This is a light card-based game where each player is a member of an adventuring party. It is set AFTER the adventure while you are relaxing in the Red Dragon Inn. Your goal is to stay sober and keep your gold. Last player standing wins. It's a game about drinking and gambling, and cheating is definately encouraged!
