Come join us for some role playing goodness with Pathfinder RPG. Pathfinder is a fantasy-based RPG, which is easy to use and play. We will start at 5pm and run til about 9pm. This will (hopefully) be the first of a series. We will create characters and do a quick dungeon crawl to learn game/character mechanics, etc. Whether you are new to RPGs or a seasoned veteran, you will have a good time!
Two spots left! This is the introductory game, we'll be rolling characters and playing a quick scenario. This is your chance to get in on the ground floor of an EPIC RPG! (now it has to live up to the hype, Anthony)
Michelle is already planning a food menu so at least that will be epic lol
Oh, and the guy coming with me is going to play something "simple" like a warrior or something so he can learn the rules
@mike - No problem, we're just getting started. We'll still be around when you get here. =)
Ben has expressed an interest in trying this. I'm not really sure what the age level for such a game is. My inclination is to tell him no. He does like to sit and look at the books, and he has made a couple of characters, so I know he grasps the concept. I'm just not sure it would hold his attention for long. OTOH, I'd like to get him interested while he's young! Thoughts? Steve, if he comes along, can we bring our Wii along to entertain him if he get's bored with the RPG?
Of course he can come along and sit in a little if he wants and play the Wii if he gets bored. This will really be a great time to do it since we're just starting and probably just doing a generic crawl Saturday (right Ant?). We'll be in the family room downstairs anyway so as not to disturb the kid's bedtime.
Its okay for Ben to try. May I suggest you make him your "sidekick" when and if he gets bored, he can be sent on a errand for you until he plays again
That's a great idea, Anthony. Thanks. I'm sure he'll do okay for awhile. Anyone who has played games with him knows he can hold his own. *AHEM, Brian*
I've never played this game (or any other tabletop RPGs since I was quite young.) Does anyone have a suggestions for a website that can give me a primer on the rules and procedures for this game so I don't act like a total rube?
www.paizo.com is a great place to start. And don't worry, most of us have played Pathfinder once, although it is pretty much an evolution of D&D 3.5. This first meetup will be to mess around with characters and maybe fight some things to familiarize everyone with combat.
@Sam. You won't be the only one. I know that Steve (not me, but the other one) has never played 3.5, for that matter I'm not sure he played anything past 2.0
@Josh. No observers. She'll play and she'll like it. =)
What better opportunity will she have to ease into Role Playing than a group filled with noobs who are just making characters and doing random encounters?!
Okay upon reflection I remove the magic item limitation. spend you gold however you wish
And yes wow full house..... must bring cat herding gear :P
I have to finish characters for the missus and I quickly. Can we get a final character roster? If I'm correct we have:
Steve: Paladin
Steve's +1: Fighter
Chris: Fighter / Thief
Matt: Druid
Sam: ?
Chancy: ?
Me: ?
Hrmm.... removing the magic item limitation. I guess I'll have to go back over my paladin again
Remember, too, that Anthony said he would provide NPCs to fill needs. That said, we're missing magic users, healing, and ranged attack.
I know we can fill in, but we might end up with 10 party members. Lol
Right, we have a big group. BUT, I don't think people should force themselves into characters just because what they want is "taken".
I'm just kinda that guy. Everytime I sit down to make a character I end up making 4 or 5 and the only way I can decide on one is to be the one to "round out" the group.
For people interested, I'll have two laptops with the trial version of Hero Labs on it. I found a way to create the character, then print it off even though you can print from the software.
I have the full version of Hero Lab. I can also get there bout an hour early and bring my laptop if that'll help.
@ Josh: If you want to show up about 4:30 to set that up, I'd appreciate it!
@ Anthony: Are you doing character backgrounds or do we come up with those on our own? If we do, how much RP is going to be involved in the actual campaign?
Oh and as always with games at my house, don't eat before hand. Michelle has a nice little menu of food! lol
Looks like we're getting more melee-esque. Chancy is going to rock a female Orc Barbarian. :D
My paladin is certainly not a healadin. He's much more a divine ret/tanky paladin
I thought about steering her toward a healer, but I didn't want to give her anything with spells or responsibilities other than hit the bad guys hard. She's never even seen an RPG played... so baby steps.
Play what you want. You will have npcs or means of filling gaps if needed. Feel free to do your own backgrounds. not required but after all you all are seasoned adventurers.
Josh keeps asking good questions I should have posted. For hitpoints your first level is maximum hps no rolls, roll for hp each level there after. If you get magic items that adjust your constitution remember to adjust your hit points.
Anthony, should we reroll 1s for hp like we did for stats?
Just a quick search brought the name: Baelrah, which means guardian beast in elvish. Of course you could go for something simple like Doodad (for those who read FR) =D
If you rolled a 1 on hp because the die "hit" the floor then yes <looks away> reroll, can't have floor die mudding up things
I agree with Chris. We should start with max HP because that's what I did. :/
Sigh........ Max Hp for all...that means max hp for my baddies...muahahahahahah
Characters done pending final approval.
A Sorcerer for me and an Orc Barbarian for her. :)
Sweet Tomorrow ought to be interesting. Yay magic classes!
If any want me to review your characters in hero lab format you can email em to me at Thodos@hotmail.com I purchased full version of hero lab and can level characters for you (as can Josh) when you do.
If your feeling adventurous make a back up character incase you become monster chow :P
Now I'm thinking I might go cleric. We have lots of damage, a healer might he useful.
Make cleric as back up if you desire. Everyone play what you wish. We can iron out details tomorrow :)
Upon reviewing templates. Pathfinder does not have level adjustments. They want GM to make the call. I can only use 3.5 books to assign level adjustments. So if your using a level adjusted race or template. Find the 3.5 D&D equivalent and plug it in. I want this to be fun and kinda smooth. Can't have party members able to "oneshot" each other :)
Chris? <poke poke> You know you want to!
