This is a re-run of an earlier adventure. Please RSVP if you have NOT played this game previously, in order to give new players a chance to play. This game is appropriate for players of all experience levels - new to RPGs and advanced players alike.
Explore one of the world’s greatest and most dangerous secrets: the Hollow Earth, a savage land filled with dinosaurs, lost civilizations, and ferocious savages! Players take on the roles of two-fisted adventurers, eager academics and intrepid journalists investigating the mysteries of the Hollow Earth. Meanwhile, on the surface, world powers and secret societies vie for control of what may be the most important discovery in all of human history.
Set in the tense and tumultuous 1930s, the action-filled Hollow Earth Expedition is inspired by the literary works of genre giants Edgar Rice Burroughs, Jules Verne, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The subterranean action is powered by Ubiquity, an innovative roleplaying system that emphasizes storytelling and cinematic action.
This is a single adventure which will take one or two sessions, however I think I remember Chris saying he might have follow up adventures we could segue into with these characters.
Well that didn't take long to fill up. I know Matt, Josh and Brian already have characters. Do you others want to make characters or use pregens?
I need to look at Armin Strong again - you had said that there was an error but I can't remember what it was.
I don't remember either. I want to say it had something to do with his punch attack. Since the time we made these characters, I have become very proficient with building them and could probably find more errors. Though, honestly, I'm not all that worried about it. I like the fact that HEX doesn't lend itself well to Munchkining .
I think that sounds right. I am thinking about raising his intelligence 1 point.
i'm taking my attempt at building my own character :) we'll see how it goes
Thanks for opening up another spot, guys! This falls on the day of Ramie's baby shower and I needed an excuse to get away :)
No problem, Sam. I ran this the first time with 7 players, so I figured taking it up to 6 wouldn't hurt.
Keep in mind if you want to speak more than one language, you need skill points in Linguistics...
I may make some exceptions based on people's nationalities.
Since I am largely new to RPGs and wholly unfamiliar with HEX, would anyone like to create a character to play? I promise to play the role faithfully.
Can you come up with a "style" of character? IE, a soldier, a paperboy, a mad scientist, etc? Having an idea for a character is more important than anything.
Hmm... well my first concern is that my character compliment the group's abilities. What type of skills would be useful?
Knowing basically nothing about HEX other than the description posted for this meetup, I would say maybe an archaeologist nerd who also happens to be a big game hunter?
This system doesn't really work that way, or at least that's my understanding. Plus, we don't really know each others characters at this point of the adventure. Just pick something you think would be fun and go for it!
The main thing with HEX is developing what kind of character you want to play. In HEX, they call them archetypes. Remember, this is Pulp, so common archetype examples would be "the mad scientist shunned by his peers" or the "intrepid reporter trying to get her big break" or the "adventurous tomb raider looking for the big loot to get rich." Then pick skills that fit that character. It's not so much about min/maxing stats and bonuses.
Plus, you will get style points when you do something in character, especially if it is based on your character's flaw (if they have one), or even just making me laugh. Style points can be used to boost rolls, allowing a character to do amazing things--just as you would expect in a pulp adventure.
I looked this up online a little. I'm getting pretty excited about it. I think the missionary sample character would be fun to role play.
Well, Ramie didn't ask for MY permission... But I say yes, of course you can come and "hang out". On the condition that you play "Rock Band".
@ Ramie. We've got Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, and Settlers of Catan on Xbox now if you want something to keep you occupied. :)
Of course you can, Ramie. Like others said, you can play other stuff or hang out at the table as we play--maybe even help Sam out.
Unfortunately, my driveway is gonna be full. Everyone just park on the road :/ Sorry.
Thanks everyone for allowing me to come hang out. I appreciate it. :)
Will this be a one time event or a series? It seems like an interesting scenario.
