Having just met alot of you I have to concur with the notes from Matt and Steve about the great people. Scott has so enjoyed hosting World of Darkness, playing Firefly and Pathfinder. He LOVED game camp. Now since participating in the Murder at Midnight and meeting many more of the core group (Matt's right...you know who you are) it is amazing to meet such great people. Please count on the Blankenship's for support of the group.  Sending it via Paypal on Friday.

Hopefully this goes to more than just Matt, but let me take a minute to thank Matt and Chris for all the hard work they do behind the scenes.  However, let me take that one step farther as well and thank everyone who plans, creates, hosts, or runs an event.  Not all of our events are as big and complex as Game Camp, but each and every one of them matters.  This group continues to grow because these people make such great events that everyone wants to attend them.  So thank you to those people as well.

That being said, when I came to the first meetup at the Decatur Club way back when, I was just looking for a group to play D&D with again.  My old group really wasn't together any more and I thought that I might find some folks who may enjoy the same thing here.  Now I look back at the great times I've had doing FAR more than just D&D with this group.  You have all grown to be my friend and I enjoy everything we do as a group, be it something as elaborate as Game Camp (looking forward to 2012 camp!) or something as simple as grabbing lunch with some of you when we can.  Thank you all for everything you have done to impact my life for the better.

I will be more than happy to contribute to this group so, to paraphrase Ted Raimi from Army of Darkness, "You can count on my money"!

Steve

Decatur Gamers,
What a year 2011 was! We held over 115 organized events! I hope you were able to enjoy at least a few of them. Some of the highlights from 2011:
  • Our annual "Real Red Dragon Inn" event
  • Our Magic: The Gathering launch party and Celebration 2011
  • Holiday Parties (Half-Christmas, Halloween, New Years Eve)
  • Game Camp (two straight days of gaming!)
  • The "Murder Before Midnight" mystery party game
That's in addition to our:
  • Monthly Open Game Nights
  • Countless Role Playing Game events
  • Several "social" events - dinners, movies, etc.
Our membership has grown steadily over the last 12 months as well. We now boast 150 members! We have lost some people who moved away or just decided gaming wasn't their "thing", but we've gotten several new members that have been very active and that are becoming fast friends. And, ultimately, that's what this group is all about.
As many of you know, we pay an annual fee to Meetup to host our website. We also pay for the "decaturgamers.com" domain name, and some other miscellaneous things - paper, ink, office supplies, etc. - to help promote and maintain the group. We try very hard to keep membership in the group "free". Occasionally, we will have a special event that requires participants to pay for their ticket to that event, but for the most part we do not ask for money from our members. In fact, the last time we asked for donations was February 2010.
We have some great things planned for 2012, but in order to make our plans come true, we'll need your help! Our next dues cycle begins on February 15, 2012, so we're going to be doing a "donation drive" to fill the coffers before that time! Our goal is to raise $200.00 by Feb 15. Doing so will allow us to pay dues and expenses, and will also allow us to book our date for Game Camp 2012, and keep the group going and growing strong!
There are several ways you can donate:
  • with Paypal at [address removed]
  • with cash to Matt Williams or Chris Baker at any upcoming event
  • with checks or money orders to:
Matt Williams
PO Box 408
Cerro Gordo, IL 61818
Donations of any amount will help, but here's how the math works out. We have 150 members, but only about 20 "active" members (people that come to events regularly). As such, if those 20 of you (you know who you are!) would be willing to donate just $10, we'd reach our goal! Of course, any amount will help, and will be very appreciated! And please don't worry if you can't donate - we do not restrict participation based on someones ability to pay.
To sweeten the deal, if you donate $20 or more, and include your mailing address with your donation, we will send you one of our custom Decatur Gamers "I am a gamer" window clings! We're almost out of these, so get yours while you still can.
We will post a thread on the Message Board giving updates toward our goal (your individual donations will be anonymous, we'll just update the totals). So you can keep track of our progress!
On a personal note, I would like to say how honored and privileged I am to have you all as my friends. When Chris and I started Decatur Gamers back in '09 (after a failed attempt a few years earlier), we never thought that the group would grow to what it has become today, nor did I think I would become as close to you guys as I have. You've helped me get through a personally trying 2011, and I really appreciate your friendship. I hope 2012 brings you each great opportunities, health, and happiness.
For my friend and co-organizer, Chris, I remain;
Your humble servant,
Matt
