Where is my ray gun? (Pew Pew)

Something I didn't think about was how in the time frame of the campaign....the whole region would likely have reverted back to its pre-columbian state. It is quite plausible that some people may have taken up a nomadic lifestyle like the indians of yesteryear.
Thoughts? |

Jacob Fawer has a character like that I think, a hunter tribesman. I was thinking of making a timeline for us to tweak starting in the year 2012 to 2112 the year of the cataclysm.
No Evan I won't have lasers as a viable personal weapon in that timeline, but.............. |

Just to make sure everybody is clear....foing as far as we are in the future will pretty much guarantee that scavaging will not produce much usable goods items. Digging may yield better results, but again over two hundred years worth of deteriation.

So, what would survive that long? Not much in a recognizable form. Rubber rots. Most metals oxidize...especially in CENTURIES of exposure to oxygen and moisture. Even plastic will decay.

I highly suggest you guys check out the miniseries "life after people" if you haven't yet.

Yeah good series. Well most firearms are packed in oil and or grease (cosmoline). I would guess anything that was vacuum packed and or sealed against moisture, uv light and oxygen would be safe.
Sealed organics would probably spoil but be preserved. |

But is cosmoline rated for two hundred years plus.....and, in many cases being buried subject to moisture? My experience with rust preventatives is the are still subject to gravity and will, albeit slowly, make the change in potential energy given enough time Remember almost every singlel builiding would have lost the roof before falling in..which means extreme exposure to the elements for years. In choosing 250 years, there is almost no discernible evidence of buildings except small mound and divots. While I am not saying nothing is salvageable...it will be with great effort with little prospect of finding anything useful. Even vacuum packed doesn't meant the material will survive centuries before breaking down...and even if it doesn't ... I doubt that most foodstuffs would stay good that long.
Really at this point I see the world as a combination of the wild west (also in regards to technology in certain areas) and Europe Dark ages in terms of power struggles. As the slider moves along the timeline, it will produce different results. Do you guys want to put the game closer to the disaster? |
