[[EDIT: Please be aware that from time to time, we will prune this thread to make it introductions only. Thanks.]]

I see a few people posting on here, but I don't know much about everyone. Thought I'd just share a little information about myself in the hopes that others may follow:

My name is Steve Sanders, I'm 30 years old and live in Mt Zion. I've been married now for 6 years to my wife and we were recently blessed with our first child (back in October 2008). I am an IT geek by trade and a history nerd by passion (and hopefully by trade before too long!). My gaming history is that I have played mostly D&D starting with 2nd edition. My group got into 3rd edition just barely before it all fell apart and we didn't play any more. I haven't even rolled dice in more than 4-5 years, and I miss it! I would love to find a group that plays, but of course having not played for a while, I would need to be refreshed (I'm sure I could pick it up very quickly having played quite a bit before). In terms of table-top, I have played a few games in the past, but haven't ever really had much of a group to play with. I also am an avid PC gamer who has played games such as Neverwinter Nights, the Baldur's Gate series, World War 2 Online (Battleground Europe is what is called now), Lord of the Rings Online, World of Warcraft, and more.

I look forward to getting to know people and, hopefully, getting back into D&D gaming with a good, mature group!

Steve,

Good to meet you! I'm Matt Williams, I guess I'm the organizer of this group...

I'm thirty... (does math)... four. I live and work in Cerro Gordo. I've been married to Amy (also a member of the group!) for 15 years, we have one son, Ben, who is 9. I currently work for the "family business" as a designer (I do the websites, catalogs, promotions, etc). I'm also a volunteer EMT, and I'm going to school to become a Paramedic.

My family loves games. My son has grown up playing all sorts of board games, and he can compete with the best of players. My wife and I have joked that since it's hard to find people to play with, we'll just grow our own. smile

I used to really enjoy RPGs, but it just seems hard to get a group together. I know we have a couple of RPers here, so Steve, I think you should pick a game and GM for us. biggrin

I'm also a PC game geek. NWN took MANY hours of my life. I played City of Heroes for awhile, then LotRO. I've gotten out of MMORPGs tho. Right now I'm playing CoD4 and Left for Dead.

I appreciate everyone signing up and participating. Now let's get gaming!

I covered most of my gaming affinities in a previous post. On a personal level, I am 32, live in Cerro Gordo, and work at the Herald & Review. I ,too, love history--it was my first major in college. I stay fairly busy since I also have a part time job so I work every day of the week. But in my time off I cram in working out, camping/hiking, LOTRO (Landroval server), and hopefully soon lots of gaming.

Guess it's my turn...

My name is Josh Chestnut. I'm 34, live in Decatur, and work for the Macon county Sheriffs dept in corrections. I've no offspring that i know of and currently gaming is my only mistress.

I'm a fan of gaming in general, but if forced to choose an appropriate label for my favored flavor of geekdom I'd likely call myself a roleplayer. The systems I'm most experienced with are: D&D and Shadowrun. I've also enjoyed WEG Star Wars, Champions, Marvel, Space Master, and a dash of Mage.

My favored tabletop wargames are: Warhammer 40K, Battletech, and Starmada.

A few boardgames I'm fond of include: Twilight Imperium, Axis and Allies, and Steve Jackson's "Hacker".

As far as card games go, I used to play magic WAY back in the day but realized I didn't have deep enough pockets to keep up.

I'm an avid PC and console gamer, I was thouroughly involved in the first Everquest and have dabbled in several other MMOs to varying degrees since including:planetside, City of Heroes, Lotro, Vanguard, Age of Conan, and Champions online (currently beta testing). I also enjoy WH40K Dawn of war, COD4, BAttlefield 2, and Fallout 3.

I'm up for trying any game once and look forward to meeting some fellow gamers.

The following has been pruned by the author to take up less space and to get rid of the rambling musings of a gamer with turret/Alzheimer's:

I'm an old fart (49) and one of the assistant public defenders here in macon county. (So I'm in the jail quite a bit to see clients) Steve's wife and I work together so I guess he's not really Satan. I've been a game player since BEFORE D&D came out. I started playing civil war minis in high school and worked at Judge's Guild (doing things like packaging orders for shipment) here in Decatur as a kid in exchange for product. (Bledsaw, don't know if Bob was your dad or not but I knew him-one of the founders of Judge's Guild) Played a lot of D&D in college, but haven't roleplayed in a long time. Mostly board games and computer MMORPGs now. (BTW who the hell plays on Landroval server? I heard that was for wimps ;) )( I'm on Brandywine) I play just about anything, and have a closet full of games and a back room full of unpainted lead-mostly warhammer and 40k. I go to GenCon every year with a group of buddies, and we've been going since 1989. So I'm looking forward to this group getting going.

Hello everyone, my name is Jeremy. I am 32 years old and live in Decatur. I have been gaming for about 16 years off and on. I only recently(in the last 3 years) found a gaming group to join and I am glad that there are support groups(ha ha) like this to bring gamers closer together. I am currently laid off from Caterpillar, but I have some good job prospects with the post office. I brewed my own beer for several years and last year I made the switch to brewing wine. Anything else you want to know just ask!

Hi my name is Anthony, I am a retired <disabled> electrician. I am 41 and have played D&D since 6th grade lol.
My wife likes to call me the original geek, but I see I might have a run for my money :P

I have played most main stream rpgs <Shadowrun while brief was one of my favorites> from D&D to Mutants & Masterminds. I thank Jeff Jones for introducing me to the Heros <champions system>.

Like another member here I enjoy computer games. I play WoW, and currently am in Fallen Earth beta, but wished I was in the Champions one <shakes fist> The online games I have played were UO, EQ, DAoC, EQ2,AO
CoH/V, AoC, Vanguard, and finally WoW. Looking forward to Champions and Star Trek online.

Hi my name is Keith Creighton.

I am a 7th grade social studies teacher at Stephen Decatur Middle School. In the summers I am the director of a theatre company for high school students. I live in Decatur with my wife of 6 years and we have one daughter who is 2 1/2.

I have always played games, but never got into the "hobby" world of gaming until the last year or so. Since I found the boardgamegeek.com website, I have become addicted to board games. I tried to bring my friends into the madness, but they only like some of the games I have purchased. So my next step was to start playing games after school with the middle schoolers. That has been a lot of fun, but it will be nice to play against some adults...where I can say bad words when things don't go my way!

I cannot tell you how excited I am to come to the first open gaming event! I am looking forward to getting a strong group going!

I've lived in Decatur for almost three years now. I originally was working in the hotel business until I got sick of it and went back to school for accounting. When I am not working or attending classes, you will usually find me playing games out at Richland Community College. I started out playing simple board games like Monopoly and Life, but I really got into Risk and Axis and Allies. It wasn't until college that I discovered the incredible number of games out there and have been hooked ever since. I have attended several conventions in the Illinois area such as Winter War and Diecon.

I enjoy board games very much especially related to military strategy or historical topics. I have done some miniature games involving world war 2 and revolutionary war and I enjoy these games, but I never seem to have the time to devote to learning them. As for roleplaying games, I have never gotten into them despite several attempts. They just don't do it for me like board games do. While I do like video and computer games, I never have the time and I prefer staring at a board and moving lots of bits and pieces over a board. biggrin

Other than that, I am psyched about the new game group and will be looking forward to events throughout the year.

I've been keeping up on the message boards but never really established who I am and why I'm here, so ... here's my turn.

My name is Heather. I've lived in Decatur for almost 3 1/2 years and work at the Herald & Review with Chris and Brian, although I'm in the editorial department. They're the ones who told me about this group, and Chris suggested I join, so here I am.

I'm really interested in gaming, although the games I play have tended to be either mainstream board games, like Monopoly, Life, Sorry, Careers and other games you'll frequently see on Walmart shelves; card games, like poker and those kinds of games; and online games you can find on Atari, Real Arcade and Games.com. For some reason, I've tended toward the online games that deal with food, like Chocolatier and Cake Mania and Burger Shop ... but I guess that ties into my love for snacking on junk food.

Because my schedule at work can have me working daytime or nighttime any day of the week, I never really know when I can make it to meetups, but I can always try to switch days off with the other copy editors I work with to be available.

I hope to learn a lot, play a lot and get to know a bunch of new people!
