Hey All,
Henri, one of our Amigos (Central Illinois Amigos, formerly Da Three Amigos WHFB tourney group), will be in town from Finland the second week in August. He will be flying in on the 9th, Sunday evening, and will fly back home on Friday the 14th. So far we'll probably be taking him to Springfield on Tuesday afternoon to hook up with the Springfield branch, but since Wednesday the 12th both a WEDNESDAY and my birthday, we thought we'd get a bite at Dougherty's downtown early then maybe have a game night. Would this work for anyone/everyone here? Paul |

Are you wanting to do the game at Doughertys or somewhere else?

Are you wanting to do the game at Doughertys or somewhere else?Paul, Maybe Doherty's will do better for you than me but when I put on a dinner there for a tour group, they only waive the back room (huge area for an L-shaped 30x30' table!) charge if we buy food (i.e. about $12/person for a medium entree like Dublin Wrap or Roast Beef sandwich) including Tax/Tip PLUS drinks which were open bar meaning every one pays for what they consume. Maybe they'd do it cheaper if you have a food guarantee for appetizers to make it a little less. You probably already know this but they also have a 2nd private room with the bowling alley in it... where I enjoyed Senior Gym Class at SDHS in 1972. If the cost of the room or getting everyone to buy a 'big' sandwich is too impractical, I can open up the Franklin Mall that night... FYI, I have tentatively planned to have a Civil War miniatures game between 8/4-10/09 just not sure what's the best evening if Tue-Fri week day or that Saturday 8/8/09 or Sunday 8/9/09. Unfortunately, it's not be practical to put on my game that night... since you'd probably need to start after a pleasant i.e 'long' dinner (and why not!) I'd like to start at 5PM with provision for hot dogs etc. for hungry gamers to inhale first. Paul, if you're another (the only other?) miniatures fan, I'd like to make sure you can make it. |

Hey Bill!
Didn't we play out at Petrowski's in the past? I mean, probably 15-20 years ago?!? We had about 15 folks at Doherty's three years ago when Igge came to town, they squeezed us into the front room along one big table. I wanted to get Henri the same atmosphere/chow. Jim Allen is another minatures player, he's free most nights but preaches on Sundays. Ray works out of town during the week so at this time it's rough for him. Maybe the dinner night might just be that, dinner and maybe a game of Munchkin, or something else that fast... |

Well, whatever you decide to do. The 12th is not our regular game night, but we can set up as a special event. If you want to get the OK from Dohertys, then we can start taking RSVPs and get a group together. Give this group, I have no doubt that we'll get a good sized group...

Hi Paul,
Yes I'm pretty sure we played at David's house and perhaps in one of his giant games out at the Conservation District. In fact you may have already played a version of my Civil War rules but by the time that David got done with it, I didn't recognize my game any more! And I do remember Jim Allen too. My idea of Saturday 8/8/09 civil war minatures game may be complicated by the fact that it's the first full day of Decatur Celebration! I am willing to proceed if any one wants to play... if you don't have to spend every minute there then we could start in the morning at 11AM (after the parade finishes) and game will be over around mid-afternoon. You could watch the parade with your family and send them up to the celebration and stay in the Air Conditioned Comfort eating free hot dogs during the "heat of the day" and then rejoin them as the temperature returns to reasonable. And you would have a free parking place 1 block away from the main gate! I will give free parking passes to stay on my lot which a youth group rents out otherwise.* But if no one wants to play the game that day, I totally understand and we'll figure out another time. Right now the scenario is expandable to set up for 2-16 players. Matt, If this sounds reasonable, can you put up a poll as to who will say YES/NO/MAYBE for this day? *With Franklin Street blocked off, getting to Franklin Mall (304 S Franklin) is tricky but easily done if you plan a few blocks ahead... head East on Wood Street at ML King Jr Dr and turn left at Industry Court (next to the Decatur Transit bus building) and proceed almost to Franklin St and come into our parking lot from the south. I will have a section taped off for the gamers. |

I didn't get the chance to talk to Doherty's today,
We might just stick with dinner, I haven't heard too much from other folks yet. I remember playing some set of ACW rules with Dave, wasn't it funny that whoever on his side "seemed' to be on the winning side? He won an awful lot! Since Jim and he wrote the War Cry rules for JG, I got to play them a bit back then in the early 80's. I then went on to Warhammer 3rd edition in 1986 or so. I work the Decatur Celebration that day, it will probably be a long hot day......and I mean it, I will be downtown patrolling the mean streets! |

I was afraid that some may have commitments that day. We should probably schedule a different day... is Saturday the best day for most people? |

Typically Saturday works best for most. Sunday is also pretty good. Maybe pick a few dates and we'll put them on a poll?

Saturday usually works best for many folks,
Jim remembered you too Bill, Sundays is his day to preach. Yes, he became a preacher man! Part time so far, but who knows how far he will go...... |
