Hey folks, I was told today at work that the paper wants to write an article about our group. It will be the feature Life story on a Sunday sometime in late September. Sheila Smith will be writing the article. Currently, she plans on visiting our next meetup and well as the Mini Con. I'm sure she will want to talk to some members, get quotes, pics, etc, so let's make sure we have some great attendance!
Given that this will be the feature story on a front of a section on Sunday (the biggest circulation day), this is a tremendous advertising/recruitment opportunity for us. |

In about 1975, the Review (evening paper for those too young or new to Decatur) featured the ICD wargame club on it's back page. Bob Sampson wrote it up. I got him to play the game--Civil War miniatures.

Bill, that's very cool. You don't have a copy of the article, do you?

Bill, that's very cool. You don't have a copy of the article, do you? yes... it's in my Judges Guild history booklet available from Novel Ideas downtown which also features pictures taken by the Herald & Review of Bob & I for various articles around 1976-1978 associated with the meteoric success of JG... I got a digital scan of one from the original newspaper morgue. I will send it on to you separately... and you can post it in your DAGHS, Decatur Ancient Gaming History Section! |

Hey, I like Novel Ideas--they are just across the street from the newspaper (where I work). Need to head back over there--it's been awhile.

Thanks for posting the article! I just figured out that you click on it and it makes it larger... so I read it again for the first time in 20 years. I figured out that the article was from early 1976 but before Bob and I started Judges Guild officially on July 4, 1976.
We had rented rooms across from the miniature figures shop (where that game was) and had some games there. Plus we stored numerous boxes of our printed fantasy game aids (City State of the Invincible Overlord, Ready Ref Sheets and Dungeon Tac Cards) before moving JG to the Franklin Mall.
