Wow, that's neat you were at GenCon in the 70s. I imagine MUCH different! So were you guys really the first ones to start making D&D third party material commercially?

Wow, that's neat you were at GenCon in the 70s. I imagine MUCH different! So were you guys really the first ones to start making D&D third party material commercially? I think so but cannot really be sure! We were the first to be officially Approved For Use With D&D and able to stick that on each product. Oddly enough we had not sought this but it just kind came "up" in negotiations with TSR. We were mainly discussing a royalty to use their "copyright" material. Not long Bob told me that there probably was no real copyright infringement if we had ignored them but that was not our way to skate on technicalities. We wanted a good relationship and it's arguable that the deal was mutually beneficial far beyond the direct $'s involved. |
