I would LOVE to actually finish a game of Descent. I've been thinking of ways to accomplish this. We could, of course, limit the number of rooms to TWO, but that puts the overlord at a distinct disadvantage. I think the solution is to 1) not go so long between games so that we can kind of remember what the rules are, 2) have the players review the rules prior to arriving, and 3) have a lead Overlord and an assistant. That seemed to help things flow last time. Any other ideas? When shall we try again?

I like the Assistant DO because it will allow someone else to manage the game if Chris can't make it. After playing twice, I am pretty down on the rules. Anyone else can easily find them at Board Game Geek.

As for meeting times, Tuesday and Thursday night at RCC would work fine with me. Otherwise, any time on the weekend would be good as well.

Something that might help too is if Chris would be willing to loan us his Descent game in case he can't make it to a meet up. That way, we can still play even if the best DO in Decatur can't be there. wink

I don't know how they claim the game takes 2-4 hours. With the max four heroes and one Overlord, it takes double that--minimum!

Now, I did run an "Introductory" game of Descent at Gen Con last year and it was completed in 4 hours. However, the dungeon consisted of only 3 rooms and there was no traveling back to town.

We have only scratched the surface of the things you can do in Descent. With the expansions, there are more evil traps, like rolling boulders and poison darts. And I still don't have two of the expansions.

I'd almost like to play it like a regular RPG where all the encounters are preset. You could tell an actual story plus end the ceaseless spawning that slows the game down. The tough part is how to tell if encounters are too easy or too difficult? If you circumvent the game mechanics like that, you are on your own trying to keep the game balanced.

When we do play again, we have to make sure Josh can play--he's been wanting to!

Awesome, we just have to set up a location and time on the weekend and I'm sure the people will come.

I've also played Overlord and could do so again if Chris would like to be a player. Tho, I prefer being the player.

Saturdays works good for me. I would suggest Richland as a meeting place. I am sure that I could reserve a room through the Gamers Club for that day.

Cool. Lets see if that works for anyone else, then we can make it official. I'm thinking RSVPs for 6 (two OLs, 4 players).

Great, I'll reserve the stuff here. I just got the okay from the Richland people too.....finally! All I need to do is let security know that the Richland Gamers Club is meeting on a day off of school. They will leave us alone, so we finally have a place for Sundays now. Yeah!

That's pretty cool!

Of Course, I have no clue what I work that Saturday though.
