I had some GC money still left on Amazon, so I picked up the Desolation RPG. Here's the description:
High Fantasy, Brought Low. The sky turned red, the ground split, the oceans flooded, fire rained down, mythical beasts awoke and magic lashed out. When the Night of Fire ended, nine out of every 10 people in Scondera were dead. The Long Winter killed countless more. You survived. Desolation is a post-apocalyptic fantasy roleplaying game set 18 months after a high-fantasy world was nearly brought to an end. You create a character who survived the devastation. Will you seize power amidst the chaos, help to rebuild civilization, remap the twisted remains of the world ... or will you even survive another day? The story is yours to tell. Desolation's 256 pages contain everything needed to play, including a complete setting, seven playable races, free-form magic rules and the Ubiquity Roleplaying System, which emphasizes story and streamlined gaming. Ubiquity is the same rules/mechanics as Hollow Earth Expedition, which I really enjoy. It's an easy system to learn and plays very quickly. I thought it might be a neat system to try out in the traditional fantasy setting a la D&D. |

What I would like to see is a post-apoc high fantasy but instead be modern society that gets "nuked" and magic suddenly comes into being. Actually, I would like to develop that kind of campaign with some people but I have not gotten around to it.

At first, that's what I thought this was. I imagine it wouldn't take much to make it that way. The artifact creation rules for HEX would make it fairly easy to create modern items for the PCs to find. And we know the Uniquity system can handle firearms and the like by playing HEX.

![]() OK, so they didn't get "nuked" but still, that's basically the premise. |

I have a suppliment PDF (it was free if anybody wants a copy) that describes the effect of meteor imacts would have upon the earth and then gives the scenario that the meteor both partially destroys the world AND impues the world with magic as it, itself, was magical.
While the game could be moved to the far future, I think it would be very interesting to explore what would happen if such an event happened this year and how people left of the then destroyed nations would cope with both survival (given that all the infrastructure was gone) and the emergence of magic. |

Has anyone read "Empire of the East" trilogy by Fred Saberhagen? Its the beginning of the "Books of Swords" and "Books of Lost Swords". The story line is kinda similar nuclear war brings about magic/demons into the world.

nope. I did read the Book of Swords. Does it cover the time period of when the magic/demons first arrive.

nope. I did read the Book of Swords. Does it cover the time period of when the magic/demons first arrive. The Empire of the East is like 500 years or so after magic/deamons appear. Tech can be found but very few can figure out how to use it. I liked it, quick read (512 pg) and has some good background to the Book of Swords. I like to read series' all the way through so I have probably read this one 3 times. Once by itself, second got to book three of swords and then the last time I got to book two of lost swords. I might have to try again. |
