"What is Decatur Gamers?"
We are a group of Decatur, IL area residents who enjoy the social interaction that is face-to-face gaming.
"What games do you play?"
We play a huge variety of games. Our boardgame classics include Settlers of Catan, Carcassone, Ticket to Ride, Munchkin, Descent, Zombies!, and many more. We also play RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons, Buffy:The Vampire Slayer, Hollow Earth Expedition, and others.
"I've never even heard of any of these games!"
Don't worry if any or all of these games are unfamiliar to you. There will always be someone willing to teach you any game we play. We don't ask our members to be experts at ANYTHING, we just ask that you be willing to learn and ready to have fun!
"Do I have to bring a game to play?"
No. Some of our Meetups are game-specific and sometimes we'll just do open gaming where our members can bring any game they would like to play and we'll just play whatever interests us. But you are not required to bring a game at any time. Many of our members have closets full of games to keep us entertained.
"When and where do you meet?"
We have three fantastic venues that allow us use of their space. We regularly meet at the Decatur Club, Richland Community College, and Clockwork Pizza. We have two regular monthly Game Days (one is a "set game" where we try to have a theme or play a specific game, the other is Open Gaming so everyone can try something new!
"Does it cost anything to join?"
Currently there is no fee to join Decatur Gamers. Because we do have Meetup fees, poster and flier costs, and other expenses, we do "pass the hat" at our Meetup events for donations. These are completely voluntary. We suggest $1 - $2 per person, per Meetup, but you can give as much or as little as you like.
